Taco Bell Experiments With QR Codes

Taco Bell has made its sodas and burritos interactive with QR Codes. As of last month, the QR code can be found on a large fountain drink or Big Box Remixed order. When the code is activated, it unlocks exclusive footage related to Taco Bell’s sponsorship of MTV’s Video Music Awards. The content includes videos from musicians chosen by MTV. One new artist will be added every week until the program concludes on September 4th.

Taco Bell is one of the first in the fast food industry to experiment with QR Codes. McDonald’s ran a program in Japan that let consumers access nutritional information using the codes as well.

Creating a QR code is relatively quick and simple. Once you’ve created a QR code, you can print it on anything including TV advertisements, magazine ads, clothing, packaging, real estate signs, and more. It is important that the QR code is large and easy enough to be scanned. Small, complex QR codes are the biggest and most common mistake made by first time marketers. Be sure to test out the scan-ability with a variety of smartphones. And most importantly, make sure your offering is interesting and engaging to the user, and always utilize calls-to-action.
